62I don't think the PRF can sustain a Marty Stuart thread, so I'll drop this here. I always thought he was a dude, but never paid any real attention, as he was stuck in that 80's and 90's country ghetto for most of that era.
But apparently starting in 2010 he starting doing this neo-traditional thing with a very tight minimalist band. Sort of Buck Owens meets Billy Joe Shaver, but more recently delving into Byrds psychedelia and Link Wray with electric Sitars and stuff. He's not exactly a great writer, and much of the material is a homage, but if there is anybody else out there keeping pickin' alive, I am unaware of it.

6320 some odd years ago my Step-mom started getting my dad and I multi packs of black Gold Toe athletic socks for Christmas. some years 24 pair. Anyone who works on their feet can tell you how fast we burn through socks. All I wear now. Not the fanciest or most expensive, but solid fucking socks.

65He can play all right but that was a pretty forgettable tune. I see what you mean.zorg wrote: Fri Aug 09, 2024 11:53 am I don't think the PRF can sustain a Marty Stuart thread, so I'll drop this here.
I like to watch old clips from the Porter Wagoner Show and stuff like that on Youtube now and again. Thumbs Carllile, that guy surely was underrated.

66Incredible player. After seeing him interviewed extensively on Ken Burns' country music thing I can confidently say I'd enjoy beers with the guy.

Casey Prestwood.
Not so much these days, but he was Hell on wheels at one point not so long ago.

70Come to think of it...
If the "Byrds..." corner of the thing is what gets a hold of you?
Go to this page ASAP, and start at Favourite Colours, then head towards the top of the page.

Those guys did the land of the maple leaf proud.
