At least, it was better than the previous two tracks released as advances. (Really was not feeling that peppy one about the witch.)

Here's where I'm coming from: I think this band peaked w/Goat and began an abrupt slide w/Down (the last one I bought). I once had promo CDs of the final two records and sold 'em off, back when that was a financially lucrative endeavor. But I love, love, loved those first three (and Scratch Acid). Pull 'em out at least annually, maybe more.

Obviously, there's so much subjectivity here, but do you think I should snag an LP of this one? Worth it, given my take?

Cheers one and all. I’m sure some of you know I’m being (successfully) treated for The Cancer, so Covid can be scary. Luckily I got a fresh vaccine in July and it’s been super mild. The antivirals just knocked it out super fast.
Fucking thirding this wish. Hope it's a quick, hassle-free blip in your overall treatment.

Hilarious. Actually, COOT might have split the difference between these two options.
My initial opinion is that it's not a patch on the first three but better than "Shot", "Blue" and-dare I say it?-"Down". I need to hear it more though but I'm fairly sure that it's better than "Blue" at least; I don't see that changing. I heard more diversity in the riffs; not just palm-muted chugs and power-chords but also some more dissonant riffs and the trademark arpeggiated stuff sorely missing in their major label era...
Rhythmically, it's still a bit too streamlined and "straight" though...

I would like it known that I was not responsible for the JUGS suggestion.
TITS, however, sounds like something I would say. I don't remember if I actually did, but it is at least plausible that I did.
I think, toward the end of practice, I said, "Oh, no What if they call it BACK!?"

Now my copy arrived to spin I’d pretty much agree with your ranking, although I have soft spot for Down.

Overall this a pretty great album. Definitely a TJL album. I actually think Dave’s vocals are about right in the mix. My usual judge of a good mix is if I can concentrate on one instrument in the overall field, that’s definitely the case here. The performances are as always stellar. Songs, feel like a progression of The Theme. We’re talking about an AC/DC band here not Faith No More’s genre bending.

I miss Steve’s drum sound but I think some of the band’s criticism of the mixes on the first four is right, in particular the bass can be a little too low (I hate to agree with Grumpy Sims here, but they’re his goddam albums not mine 😂). The recording is crisp and works well with the material.

Overall I think it’s great the guys came back with something that in no way denigrates their catalog or career but adds to it. Long may they reign.

Dudley + Mouthbreather beat that duo.

Boikermaker always seemed to me a less cool, cleaner version of Helmet's repetition.

Got a chance to listen to the new one, and without wanting to be too much of a downer, it didn't improve over the preview tracks for me. There are a lot of concessions to mainstream sounds and grooves throughout without actually fully committing towards the potential payoff of really selling out with a polished straightforward rock record ala PIL or something like that. Still better than Blue, but that's as high as it ranks for me.
