More Yugoslavs died in WWII than the Brits, who lost around 370,000 people. The Soviets lost 20 million.

Sorry to burst the national myth but the UK suffered pretty much the least out of almost every other combatant.

The bounty? Post-war Britain was in a budget crisis, and shedding imperial holdings as a result - they slashed military expenditures and deficit-spent in order to create a necessary welfare state for post-war rebuilding. US aid was enormous.
