Please, somebody say that Mike Watt's Wattplower Mark II bass sucks. Like, say it looks bad, or it's not econo, or something.

Thanks,

I mean it looks ugly as fuck but I bet it sounds good
Looks like one of those stupid Fender Pawn Shop mashup guitars. It's terrible. That pickup can fuck completely off.

Consensus at practice today was it’s staying as an Esquire. I have a mint green pickguard on the way, along with a control plate to accommodate an On-On switch to bypass the tone pot as I don’t really have much use for Position 3 on an Esquire.

Talk Me Out Of It:

ROUTING MY TELECASTER FOR A JAZZMASTER TREMOLO

Fender started making some "parallel universe" Jazzmaster/Trem deals that are essentially this, but I've grown accustomed to the neck and electronics on the heavily modded modern/vintera Tele Custom I've got and would prefer to NOT BUY ANOTHER GUITAR. According to my Reverb history, I've bought and sold 5 Jazzmasters which tells me I don't get on with that body shape.

Bridge-wise, I could just drop in this Mastery guy, which would make things a bit easier.

Thoughts?

Would a Bigsby be out of the question? (I'd imagine so--it's best in a more constrained range.) If you could get with a Bigsby, you could attach it without drilling holes, if you used a Vibramate plate for the Tele.

Yeah, I'm not super into the feel of a Bigsby - plus I don't have as much room to do "behind the bridge" stuff like I could with a JM trem there (though I fully expect someone with chops here will prove me wrong!)

Leading maybe-not arguments for me are:

a) it will change everything about the way the guitar feels in a rather heavy way. Presumably right now you like this instrument enough to have held on to it? I would expect that in order to get a viable break angle across the bridge you will have to set it quite high, and likely then shim the neck too. on my guitar that has string anchors far off behind the bridge, bending strings feel significantly different - it takes more effort and time to attain a given pitch. maybe irrelevant to you.

b) have you got enough distance between the (immutable) bridge position & the edge of the body to make the thing fit? check & double-check.

possible alternative: as far as i can tell, stetsbar still trading? i've never tried a guitar with their apparatus on it, but if your requirement is simply "i want to wobble things", my understanding is that it requires no new routing, and it might not require any funny business with the neck either.

You know how many pickups a bass needs? One. Just one pickup. More is NOT econo. Maybe they're trying to compensate for the short scale which is a total deal breaker as well.

That cable jack. Could it be closer to the bridge? I could see smacking the cable from time to time.

If you play that you do not play bass. You play "thud stick." And you have to name drop D. Boon every. Fucking. Time.

That anchor inlay. AHOY ME HARDIES!!!

Just get a decent P-bass. That's the answer 95% of the time.

(Hope that helps.)
