The other bands you've mentioned have more currency with the Tik Tok crowd, or, relevancy adjacent to other people culture trends. I'd argue that your average young person isn't finding out about the Mac by record digging but by scrolling. Madonna's music isn't on movies or hit tv shows. It's not ephemeral in that way. And, strictly speaking, musically her music is more sonically varied than the hitmakers of today.Wood Goblin wrote: Sun Oct 20, 2024 10:13 am It made me realize how Madonna’s importance as a musical and cultural figure was pretty much limited to one generation. Given how controversial and inescapable she was in the 80s and 90s, it’s rather shocking to see how little purchase she has with younger generations. Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush, and Metallica seem to have kept resonating or to be continually rediscovered. But Madonna? Does anyone under the age of thirty give a shit about “Like a Virgin”?
Gen X gays are still all about it bout it tho even at their most critical.
