They should be banned outright. There is no positive argument for their existence.
Freedom baby. But that said plenty of countries ban polling close to election day.

In Brazil alcohol is banned on polling day 😵‍💫

don't look at polls as predictors. that's not what they're for.

provoke apathy? that's not what they're for either. nobody cares about apathy (ha).

polling tells the candidates which direction things are moving at a given time, so they can adjust before it's too late.

I haven't the slightest idea. Everybody is just so angry all the time, it's impossible to get a read on public opinion.
The atmosphere is totally weird. A presidential election and my kids high school refuses to discuss it in class. I remember we use to do mock elections and stuff.
Hell, outside of regional enclaves, people are scared to put bumper stickers on theirs cars anymore, I'm guessing for fear of being keyed in the parking lot or run off the road.. That used to be the mainstay of election season.
