I wonder why anybody gives any election polling the time of day. I can't believe they're allowed even. Their only purpose is to provoke a small level of angst or apathy, depending on which side the needle swings.
They should be banned outright. There is no positive argument for their existence.

32Freedom baby. But that said plenty of countries ban polling close to election day.A_Man_Who_Tries wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 4:12 am I wonder why anybody gives any election polling the time of day. In Brazil alcohol is banned on polling day

33Yeah, I think Kamala actually wins by a lot. The actual poll we should be running should be "will attempts to rat-fuck the result actually work and put Tr*mp back in power?"A_Man_Who_Tries wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2024 3:34 pm Harris, and by a wider margin than expected, but that's not going to stop an absolutely homocidal shitstorm in the aftermath.

34don't look at polls as predictors. that's not what they're for.
polling tells the candidates which direction things are moving at a given time, so they can adjust before it's too late.
provoke apathy? that's not what they're for either. nobody cares about apathy (ha).A_Man_Who_Tries wrote: I wonder why anybody gives any election polling the time of day. 37He can try to pull off an everyday man/"just like us" quality by working a half-shift there, but all of this is rendered moot by him not owning a cat or a dog and never having said anything critical of Vladimir Putin. RED FLAGS for a U.S. politician! And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Not surprised to hear that.
Imagine, though, someone pulling up to get their food and seeing that face pop out of the drive-thru window. Would be a bigger deterrent than anything in Super Size Me.

40I haven't the slightest idea. Everybody is just so angry all the time, it's impossible to get a read on public opinion.
The atmosphere is totally weird. A presidential election and my kids high school refuses to discuss it in class. I remember we use to do mock elections and stuff.
Hell, outside of regional enclaves, people are scared to put bumper stickers on theirs cars anymore, I'm guessing for fear of being keyed in the parking lot or run off the road.. That used to be the mainstay of election season.
