I want to make a record using only Beyer and Audio Technica mics
Because of YouTube people have gotten in the habit of saying "if you only get one mic make it a SM7b" to which I react violently and scream "BEYERDYNAMIC M88 YOU FOOLS!" It really does sound pretty fantastic on anything. I have 2 and if I ever see a deal on them, I'll get more. I may be the only person that thinks a SM7b is not special in any way and it's housing is absurd and hard to place. Plus with a M88 you don't need a lifter, something I think you don't really need anyway if your preamp didn't come off Temu.

Reuss Effects Muzzbox
Warren Ellis signature angry Octavia.

Spent all weekend jamming with this thing. So fucking cool. Thick, good-noisey, amazing fuzz. Gets wild but controllable with playing dynamics and volume knob. Great immediate stabby attack. Would love to hear it parallel with a blue box.

Fairfield Barbershop
Low gain j-fet overdrive

I’ve explored quite a few j-fet overdrives in recent years. Some get tantalizingly close to dead on what I want. My favorites are this one, the catalinbread formula-bassman-whatever it’s called, and the EQD monarch. These all sound great but this one is geared to low gain, which is nice because it is hard to get that low with my Les Paul with the other two. Its gainiest is comparable to the others at their lowest breakup. One of my single coil guitars just doesn’t get breakup with it though.

DOD Rubberneck
Feature packed analog delay

Got this used for a fraction of what they used to go for. Definitely look for a deal on these. Thing is very versatile. The repeats can be clear, grungy, bright, or dark depending on how you dial it in. The repeats get pretty long for an analog delay. You can also dial in some nice vibrato. I usually keep the rate on that pretty high and the depth really low for a hint of warble. Really lovely stuff!

Then there’s the advanced features. There’s tap tempo. People like that I hear, idk. I never used it before. But it’s there. Then there’s the rubberneck and regen controls. Each has a lil flashing trim pot next to the bypass and tap tempo switches respectively. Look at a video. You can set a different regen rate and when you hold down the tap switch it ramps to that rate from the main setting. The rubberneck works the same but it switches to a different delay time.

A+ delay without those things, and they don’t work as intuitively as they could. Also, I’ve activated the rubberneck when just trying to use the bypass. Still, I’ve gotten some wild sounds fucking around with them. And the regen works when bypassed with tails on. There’s some deep potential for noisy shit here! I’d need to really put some time in to get it to a predictable art, but it may be well worth it. So far I’ve gotten some really lurching mechanical doom sounds by setting the rubber neck to super slow and holding down both switches.

I got a Belle Epoch Deluxe for my B-Diddy. It's a pretty great delay if you want something that sounds kinda like a tape echo. The Modulation setting all sound like shit but the delay itself sounds really chrunchy and good. I have too many delays, man.

Of your too many delays, have you tried EAE's Sending delay? I was reading an interview with the owner about this pedal on reverb yesterday and it sounds interesting. It may even justify the $650 cost

I saw a video of it. It seems cool... no delay is worth $600. Also, a bunch of modulation. I highly dislike most modulated delays and never use that function. Funny thing about my "Too Many Delays" is most of them all do the same thing. Like all the boss delays, I think I have 3 of those white Boss Digital delays lying around. Several Analog slap delays that are interchangeable and do nothing special... three or four Space Echo simulators. It's dumb. I love them.

The fact that it acts as a sort of preamp made me curious about all the details he mentioned—even if they're details only he may notice. $600 is steep, agreed.

Pedals that do the same thing: delays, reverbs, and so many distortion/fuzzes abound here, with that same thought. But love is love ❤️

Korg Wavestate

Korg reverb site had B stock for $350 so I snagged one. We wanted something to compliment our Prophet Rev2, allow for acoustic piano sounds but also trigger user samples, provide atmosphere in between songs etc. This checks all those boxes AND it’s extremely light because it seems to be built out of the cheapest plastic… still it doesn’t feel too shitty to use. If I paid full $700 price I would be bummed.
But it sounds completely amazing?

The evolving wave presets immediately betrays 90s movies, video games, dance music etc, but with a little messing around you can make some dark, heavy, brutal sounds. The acoustic piano samples are wonderful. Sequenced sounds are cool - having evolving layers of samples is wild - like you can have a whole scene of sounds come out organically/smoothly, this preset being the silliest example
I really can’t imagine a better contrast to a standard analog synth - a totally different animal, I really like it.

I also really like the layout and the form factor. The biggest con is this build quality of the enclosure, but considering you can find it for the price of a boutique delay pedal, it’s a hell of a sound generator.

I considered the Modwave as well but there was some filter limitation on that, and as a ‘concept’ the wavestate is much more left field than a standard synth so I liked that idea
