I put a bag back that was $12, some sour gummy bullshit. I told the teller "You're kidding?" Ended up with 2 for 1 mixed chocolates for $6. That is reasonable.

Halloween is not crap for kids. For adults, once in a while. I'm with Jell-O on this one.

My birthday is on halloween. Usually it’s a good day although the increasing commercialisation of it all saddens me. It’s a great Scottish/Celtic/pagan tradition. My wife loves it because she’s a spooky little creep. I’d like to see a return of old style dressing up though. I haven’t had a coffee yet.

Candy seemed expensive this year...but it seemed expensive last year too, nothing shocking, I guess? Kids were invited to a Halloween party in a posh neighborhood, and went trick or treating there. I have never seen anything like the bounty they returned with. I didn't put it on a scale, but hundreds and hundreds of substantial candies. The 6 year old literally could not carry her bag by the end of the night. Obscene. Next year I will be handing out pennies and loose Circus Peanuts in protest.

A really great song that I didn't appreciate until maybe 10 years ago, when I did a DKs set for Halloween and got to get more inside this tune. Feels like the point is "who's wearing the mask? The folks on Halloween or the conformists the other 364 days a year?"

That inferred meaning doesn't personally affect my relationship with the 10/31 holiday itself, and mostly I'm a little sad today because we only had 6 trick-or-treaters show up last night!

If only it were this easy to repel people year round.

Maybe I should keep candy on hand when I don't want to be disturbed. Like Larry David and his MAGA cap.
New neighborhood, or downward trend?
IANDA but from my vantage point trick-or-treating looks to be on a downward trend which goes back to a point I previously made about losing touch with each other. We've grown to be untrusting and solitary. Sad!

We had a few last year, none this year. They just walked on by. Last year we had a pumpkin on our porch, not so this year. Signs!

Trick or treating is still big around here but that's because the neighborhood holds it on the Saturday before actual Halloween. A few streets are blocked off for cars and some blocks go very overboard.

Our actual house doesn't get many because there are steps and a little hill. And we live next to a legit creepy house.. not in a fun way, in a "is it foreclosed or not" way.
