Qn #1: OG Motu 896 w/ firewire 400 (ouch)... Why do I still have this kicking around?
Qn #2: Is the Zoom H4n decent as a a two track interface going into Reaper or whatever?

Possible to use as a stand alone 8 ch ADAT to Analog converter? A lot of MOTU boxes can do that. Manual should tell you how to set that up. If you have another box with ADAT you can expand your IO by 8 in/out.
Qn #2: Is the Zoom H4n decent as a a two track interface going into Reaper or whatever?
It's probably just fine.

2203I used an H4n to record a song that made it into two documentaries and a trailer for a Tom hanks movie and no one complainedKniferide wrote: Tue Nov 05, 2024 3:10 pmLBx wrote: Tue Nov 05, 2024 11:56 am Qn #1: OG Motu 896 w/ firewire 400 (ouch)... Why do I still have this kicking around?

Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
2205The trailer was for The Post, but it was a very brief online ad that I can’t find easily, so uh, take my word for it..? . The same song was in the trailer for California Typewriter (also with Tom Hanks!) documentary and another documentary called Blunderwood, about the construction of a giant typewriter sculpture that someone commissioned.TylerDeadPine wrote: Tue Nov 05, 2024 6:20 pm!! Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
2210I was looking up hybrid mixer setups and some guy recommended using a live sound mixer’s bus outs into a nicer summing mixer for sort of a fake master section upgrade for mixing. A console cheat, if you will.
I like the idea but I’m not really going to mess with all that. What are the chances it would actually work as intended, ie - an economical and tactile control layout with an improved sound? Or with the live sound desk at that stage still be doing its thing?
I’m sure its splitting hairs to a certain extent either way, but I’m wondering how much the master section of a mixer has to do with whatever sound its imparts vs the earlier stages.
