Do you think your elected leaders have any more conviction than the revenge of Joe Sixpack? Because, from my viewpoint at least our excuse is he's OUR idiot, but you've intentionally welcomed him into your orbit. Hope you're paying your NATO dues.
For the most part I think they're cowards - the ones who have about-turned come the result certainly are. I don't see what that has to do with the collective, predictable failings of the voting non-right. Maybe you've bumped your head, or are thick, or both. Toodle pip.

I was talking with a friend about this shitshow and one thing that came up is that many cis people who consider themselves allies still seem to have wide tolerance when it comes to keeping transphobic friends and people in their social groups around. There’s often a claim that they are trying to “change” or “soften” them but I can’t say I’ve ever actually seen it happen in practice. There’s real strong social taboos when it becomes to being openly bigoted in other matters, but not really much of the sort when it comes to trans people, and I’ve ended up in many situations where a well-meaning cis person invited me to a party or other gathering and one of their friends said or did some nasty shit to me. Back when I used Facebook, I’d constantly have to block friends-of-friends when they’d make extremely transphobic posts. I really wish allies would do a lot more putting their foot down when it comes to this, now more than ever.

I'm saying how could you expect the average American to be better than foreign leaders when presented with the proverbial carrot at the end of the stick. They capitulate, resign their morality and take as big of a bite as they can.

The exit polls are apparently reporting that the economy was the main factor.

Another indicator that education is failing.
Yeah, that's always kind of been the case though - if Trump was in office during Joe's term, we would likely be looking at President Butigegedgebd or something.

A lot of that feedback likely came from stupid boomers and Gen Xers. That indicates education has been failing since the 60's. A cursory look at social media would show they can't even form thoughts.

They just regurgitate every Murdoch propaganda talking point they ingest. "But hunter bidan laptop!"

Trump’s campaign was absolutely relentless when it came to transphobic and xenophobic bigotry. Say what you want about low information voters not understanding what’s best for their own interests but I doubt they weren’t aware of his positions on those topics and yet they *still* chose to vote for him.

Maybe I’m completely wrong and my sample is skewed, but my life experience as an autistic trans woman has told me that a sizable majority of people are either bigoted assholes, or people who will go along with bigoted assholes without any pushback. Case in point, a couple of months ago me and a friend were loudly confronted with slurs and threatened in a public park by a few people while out for a walk. It was broad daylight and heavily attended, and about 20 people just stood there and gawked while these assholes approached two trans women and told them they were gonna kill them. One person ran up to us afterwards when we had got away and asked if we were ok, but not a single person did or said anything during the encounter or gave them any pushback afterwards. It made us both feel like absolute shit. One could argue that they didn’t want to potentially get themselves hurt, but that just reads to me as an admission that they all chose to just defer the danger onto us instead

It would be an honor to take a beating or a bullet for any queer or trans person being harassed. I don't know why more people don't feel this way and I wish I was around when things like this happen. I don't think I'm Batman or anything but I was raised to speak up and step up. The main reason I don't go to protests is that I can't afford another felony and I don't trust myself not to jump in if someone is being threatened or hurt. Anyway I'm sorry nobody like me was there for you.

I'd rather stick a drill in my ear than listen to one of his victory speeches, but has he thanked his biggest supporter, Merrick fuckin' Garland?

I have put myself in the way of two altercations. Both were on a city bus. The first was a young black lesbian couple being harassed by some asshole who couldn't mind his own business and had no qualms in fucking with two women until I got involved. I don't think he would've gotten physical with them but I wasn't about to let it happen. Words were exchanged and he exited the bus. The second was physical. Again, some dude was grappling with his gf or partner or friend and I pulled him off. Ah, and there was a third time in a subway where a barefoot homeless woman was asking for change. She asked some business chode who looked like he just came from the gym. He dismissed her and then kicked her shoes onto the subway tracks. I confronted him and literally chased him around the platform until his train arrived.

I don't think of myself as a fighter but HATE watching people getting bullied. Can't stand that shit and will do anything possible to stop it. I also REALLY FUCKING HATE riding public transportation. That shit puts me on edge as the CTA has turned into a warzone and trap house.
