One long song but a good one.

I think it sounds great, none of Smith’s worst impulses are evident and the lyrics are finally “age appropriate” misery.

Not crap, with waffles for lack of dynamics.

Not sure if very dry humour....

But yes, it's fucking bewildering how they've all come out into the sun, slowly-blinking, with their little new The Cure albums. And it's one of those where you feel they've never really listened to The Cure for the most part, but 'the zeitgeist' has crested in such a way as if to say, "YOU. MIDDLE-AGED WHITE MAN. TELL THE WORLD HOW YOU ARE ENAMOURED BY THE NEW ALBUM BY THE CURE. MAKE SURE THEY KNOW."

I’m terminally not online but I can imagine. Evidently Gen X are now the New Boomers and getting a fresh set of Brainworms according to an annoying Gen Z video that popped up in my finely curated YouTube feed.

I’m so glad I don’t argue with people online anymore. Well, other than here but here’s different.

Haven't checked yet but I like every Cure album so chances are I'll dig this one. It's unlikely Smith haven't come up with a handful of decent songs after a decade and half.

We'll see.

Maybe the euphoria around this new record it's just because a "Classic" rock band releases new stuff in this crappy era, after 16 years ...? The sole fact almost feels fresh. kinda cool even.

Yeah, it is pretty much the opposite of how music is consumed now: long songs, no obvious singles, you really have to evaluate the whole record, etc. It's like the modern version of a new Pink Floyd album or something.

Solid late career record seems like the correct assessment but that's still a pretty good place to be. NC.
