I have a question. For all the complaining that all the Democrats are doing about who is to blame, isn't the answer all of them? There were primaries, and Biden easily made a clean sweep. I understand that an incumbent is typically a lock but isn't that the intended forum for these discussions? Sanders could have run. Harris could have run with a full campaign schedule. The caucuses could have their word. Even the billionaire donors could have their say. Isn't the greatest sin here that nobody was brave enough to raise a concern when there was still a chance? Hubris, as it were?

We're rolling out compassionate conservatism again as a hand waive at social issues while systemically and financially undermining them? Why doesn't this person just admit they have incompatible philosophies and are using that to play both sides and feel better about the outcomes they produce?

There is no fiscally responsible party. That part of the argument is a wash, which is what makes the rest half baked, un-thoughtful bullshit using the most charitable read.

I’ve been saying this forever. Do we really want the fascists and fanatics to be the only ones with guns? Who do you think they have their AR-15 arsenals aimed at?
The problem with guns is that data shows most are used for suicides, domestic arguments, or against the owner in robberies/home protection/fights.
You know statistics can change, right? With responsible gun ownership and better mental health care (which we can provide ourselves as communities if we give a shit about each other). Nobody who is a suicide risk should be taking on the responsibility of a firearm in the first place.
I agree with you on both these points. What I was referring to was the fact that studies show just having easier access to a gun increases the likelihood of using it in a suicide attempt. Humans are impulsive, and guns help make that impulse easier to act upon.

A few quick articles on the matter:
"Research shows that access to a gun in the home increases the risk of suicide death by 300%. "
- from Brady (https://www.bradyunited.org/resources/i ... the-states)
"State-level firearm ownership was associated with an increase in both male and female firearm-related suicide rates and with a decrease in nonfirearm-related suicide rates. Higher gun ownership was associated with higher suicide rates by any means among male, but not among female, persons."
"Firearms are the most lethal method of suicide attempts, and about half of suicide attempts take place within 10 minutes of the current suicide thought, so having access to firearms is a suicide risk factor. The availability of firearms has been linked to suicides in a number of peer-reviewed studies. In one such study, researchers examined the association between firearm availability and suicide while also accounting for the potential confounding influence of state-level suicidal behaviors (as measured by suicide attempts). Researchers found that higher rates of gun ownership were associated with increased suicide by firearm deaths, but not with other types of suicide."

I still agree that some form of protection is needed for progressives against fascists.

I'm a solid middle class guy with a family, 36 years old. I voted for Obama twice, then Trump, then Biden/Harris, then Trump again.
conclusion: he doesn't vote for women
how does your pithy conclusion outweigh the one that he spent at least a half hour writing?

you aren't wrong. i stopped voting around his age for that very reason.
i read this not so much as an endorsement of trump and more of a rejection of the last four years.

Add sentiments like this
I care more about buying groceries for my kids than about Palestine

and you can see this is a guy whose worldview stops at his property line. Yes his analysis shows why Trump won, but not for the reason he thinks. Trump won because there are a lot of people who suck fat fuckin' donkey dick like this guy, this fucking tapeworm of a man. It doesn't mean Trump is the better candidate, it means that piss drinkers can vote. The OP probably thinks we should try to think more like this guy. I think we need to scoop his brain out and fill his skull with petunias.
