I like the idea but I’m not really going to mess with all that. What are the chances it would actually work as intended, ie - an economical and tactile control layout with an improved sound? Or with the live sound desk at that stage still be doing its thing?

I’m sure its splitting hairs to a certain extent either way, but I’m wondering how much the master section of a mixer has to do with whatever sound its imparts vs the earlier stages.
The master section of my Allen heath is definitely colorful, but so are the group buss. A signal out of a direct out, a group out, and the master bus do sound a little different. Not sure bypassing the master and using some other summing mixer would be worth it. If I were to do something like that I'd want something like the 32ch heritage summer with groups and I'd come out of channel direct outs into it. Seems like a way to use a sidecar that doesn't have master section to mix.

For really short runs I've never been picky, but yeah generally I'd try to get a genuine 110 ohm cable for anything over 15 to 20 feet. All of ours are orange so we can tell them apart from regular mic cable.

Just kind of spitballing here but if I want to split two line level channels from a mic preamp to four different outs without a patchbay what would you recommend?

Radial stuff looks tight but of course two lx-2s is like $500.

Basically I am wanting to take two outs from a mic preamp to go to a mixer for monitoring and the recorder for recording.

I currently have my Midas Venice desk rigged to do this without latency but I’m not really sure what the mixer is doing to the external preamp sound.
