Sinéad O'Connor

Have been obsessed with The Lion and the Cobra lately, I think it’s an absolutely amazing album, though I’ve never really gotten into much else by her. I’ve always admired her as a person and was gutted when she died.

Familiar with the first 2 albums; found them much more interesting than I'd expected. Her voice is effervescent but the SONGS are a muddled mess. Felt like a waste of her (considerable) raw talent. Seems she got pretty scrambled by the fame machine also, which sucks.

I only know of 3 Sinead O'Connor songs: I Want Your Hands On Me, Mandinka, and Nothing Compares 2 U. If I may, I was obsessed with the self-titled album from The Family (very not crap) and hearing her transform an obscure Prince ballad into a singular cover was breathtaking. Radical. Creative. A force. Not crap.

I saw Will Oldham do an a capella cover of Queen of Denmark at the Old Quarter in Galveston and it was just as if he cleaved the room in half.

It was a great show, and he didn’t actually write the other highlight of the night, either. Sally Timms did. Of course Oldham is no slouch himself, but he really knows how to pick them.
