Nice! Are you travelling for work?
Yup. Here for an AI conference - https://ai4herapac.com/

I leave on Sunday and got here less than 24hrs ago, but have fallen for the place already. Just got in from the night markets. Everyone is lovely, and there are fresh fishcakes for sale everywhere. There are also rather a lot of cat cafes, one of which is called "Cat Cafe Roof-Cat-Me", which is good.
I love that place.

Are things still a little uneasy there after their president's stunt last week?

Also, I looked through the presenter list for that conference to see if I recognized anyone (robotics and AI are of course overlapping fields).. I didn't recognize anyone except you :-)

Enjoy!
I shall try it (and other cat cafes) before I leave on Sunday : )

Hm, I have no real metric for this, but they seem to be rolling with it from what I see at least

Spotify fucking blows. I'm at a friend's place using his Spotify account while he's at work. Firstly, I can't find the Silver 7" from Circle. The fuck? Secondly, I decide on "Lady Love" and it stops right in the middle. Apparently my friend got in his car IN THE FUCKING SUBURBS and decided to listen to Spotify which cancels the playback at home. You're paying for a service which you can't use at your leisure on multiple devices? Buncha bullshit as far as I'm concerned 😒

I just got done organizing a bunch of records that had not been sorted and shelved alphabetically. I have no idea what some of these are as I bought them many months ago. Most of them I paid $1 for based on record label, or cover art, or just general vibe. I'll be playing one a day until I get through them. So the record for the day is:

Lo-fi punk-ish/indie/metal recording from 1989, maybe Austin, maybe Brooklyn (the label's address). Not much out there about them. My wife is even enjoying it. This was the only record on the label. It's also the very flimsiest record I have ever felt, it's so thin!

There are two types of live sound engineers in this town that I encounter regularly. One is the person who is interested in the process and is interested in making bands sound good. The other is the dude (and it’s always a dude) who wishes he was doing sound for a 5000+ crowd, and is thoroughly bored with working in clubs. He also thinks he knows what the band is going to sound like without ever hearing them, and he ALWAYS tells me to turn down my bass.

I had the latter tonight. I’ve been spoiled lately because there’s an amazing sound engineer named Lydia who has done the sound for the last few shows I’ve played. She’s a total wiz. Tonight’s guy acted like we were all wasting his time. For some reason, he felt like the guitar didn’t need to be mic’d, based on how we looked or something. He came running up with a mic in the middle of the first song. Fuggin’ dipshit.
