Seems like a steal at $500 provided it works.

That thing does look mean as hell. I like all those goofy mods they did back then.

Not the same but kind of similar - I used to really want a bass with Darkstar pickups until I tried a T40 modded with them right next to a stock T40 and I liked the stock T40 better! That would have been totally something I would have dropped $350 on to mod my bass with without ever having a chance to try side by side.

Akg D3600 $99 plus shipping on ebay - they have a bunch

Colepicksvintage demo

Description from Colepicksvintage

The D3600 was a top of the line dual diaphragm dynamic microphone at the time of its release. Like the AKG D224E and D202, the D3600 has two elements for capturing high and low frequencies. Unlike the others, the D3600 was built with durability in mind, and the elements are well protected and road worthy. The combination of the two elements lets the D3600 capture a balanced combination of high and low end - if there's too much low end the microphone features a bass-cut switch. AKG didn't make many of these (and other models look similar), so these microphones haven't gained the recognition they deserve.
