Equating what Biden did to what Trump did is just proving my original point. Collectively, people are actually thinking that Biden's term was *worse* than Trump's. REALLY?!
The only ways I can rationalize this is that the left side of the political spectrum doesn't hesitate to criticize Biden's performance whereas nearly the entire right side of the political spectrum is busy sucking Trump's dick. It's almost like 2020 and Jan. 6 never happened.

People will be associating him with enfeeblement, inflation and war, ignoring his “achievements”.
Dude shoulda announced his not running as soon as the election cycle restarted.
It’ll be interesting to see if Trump gets lucky on the economy.

3643His best play undet current trends would be to do very little. But it seems like he's got some big ideas so it could turn. The deficit hawks definitely won't be watching or they'll be upset.Gramsci wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 7:05 am

Re: Politics
3644Nevertheless, based on what I've observed in real life at this moment, it seems that the poll is accurate.

Re: Politics
3645It’s not the poll that’s the problem, it’s how poorly people draw conclusions.
To be honest the President has almost no impact on the economy, yet they love to take credit when it goes well.
Whether the culture war BS is implemented will be interesting. Bush Jr and his pals were true believers and got very little “Making Minorities even more Miserable” done. Things just stagnated until Obama was in office. Then again if the economy is humming alone people will switch off politics and they can get on with making trans etc peoples live a bit more miserable without much pushback.

Re: Politics
3646Your grasp of US politics and political history is not what you think it is.
Bush Jr. tried to get immigration reform passed that, in spite of its many flaws, would have provided legal status and a path to citizenship for the approximately 12 million undocumented immigrants living in the US at the time.
Trump is talking about rounding all these people up and revoking citizenship for recent immigrants, among other things.
It's not "culture war BS".

Re: Politics
3647Different times. I was talking about social issues like gay marriage, abortion etc. Which were hotbed issues for the religious right, of which a lot of prominent cabinet members were.jimmy spako wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 8:36 am Your grasp of US politics and political history is not what you think it is.

Immigration at the time was something Bush Jr and a number of southern Republican leaders were trying to be pragmatic on. Mainly because they saw Latinos as a potential addition to their voter base and understood the economics of unskilled labour’s benefit to capital.

Re: Politics
3648It is literally already being implemented. More anti-trans laws proposed and passing in states than ever before, federal court ruling in favor of forcibly detransitioning inmates, Title IX applying to trans people struck down, social media companies removing rules against harassing queer people… the list goes onGramsci wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 7:34 am Whether the culture war BS is implemented will be interesting.

Imagine what kind of society we would live in if everyone decided to just be (mostly) truthful. Democracy might actually work then.
I don't have a problem placing blame on Biden for essentially handing over the keys to a drunk driver. Biden, imo, is a Hillary-Clinton-level narcissist that kneecapped the DNC so he could have his time in office.
I find it difficult to parse out levels of pathological narcissism. Is Trump 50% worse? I don't know. Probably. 100% worse? Maybe.
If the DNC wants to win anything, it's time to finally take on corporations on behalf of workers and retired people. It's time to say, "no more billionaires". It's time for free college. It's time for massive public works projects. The DNC has is so easy, if they just wanted to represent their constituents.
