Maybe offer standard models for the wider public, but continue to do custom stuff on the dl for people who understand what they're getting into?
I think if you tell people up front you do custom stuff they'll come up with all kinds of crazy crap just because they can, but at the end of the day most people just want pretty normal things if they're priced right.
Re: A Few New Projects
463I agree with the idea of a couple of standards with some menu customization style options, then if you get a customer with a really specific interest, you can address that ad hoc as needed.
FWIW I think that the Les Paul Jr. double cut away would look so super rad with your set ups, I would vote for that, but that's me.
At any rate, I think you should give it a go and see where you can get.

Re: A Few New Projects
464If you have patterns and templates that keep your work running efficiently and at a high quality, that's pretty important. I'd be protective of that process, and good clients should respect that.

465If you start up an Instagram, put up a bunch of your old builds in order of build do people can get a sense of what you have done (and how it's evolved).

466If you give me a free guitar, I will post about it for my 4 nonfamily members on instagram.
Think about it, that's all I'm saying.

Re: A Few New Projects
467Haven't decided if I'm going to make a social media site of any sort...maybe will wait a bit to see if there is any clear non-nightmare place. Ideals?
Ash body for #26. Been building this out of scraps and off-cuts. Will be done relatively soon. Note the orange peel as this was sprayed about 15 seconds before I took the photo.
Just started #27, a baritone w/ 28" scale. The main brief is to minimize weight.
Got a couple great rosewood blanks for boards for #26 and 27. Will cut these some time this week.

Re: A Few New Projects
468Here is the receiver for the 28" baritone #27. last week it weighed 5lb 9oz. Now down to 3lbs 7oz with the chambering of the neck and body, etc. Obviously still a lot of material to remove in shaping the neck. Confident I can get down to 2lbs
Cherry body has been shaped and planed down to 1-5/8"Started at 8lbs- now down to 4lbs 14 oz. Again, still a lot of material to remove for the receiver route, arm and body contours, control cavity.
Lots of progress on #26 as well. got the board done, finish complete and now starting on the pickguard and getting things mounted. probably 2-3 weeks, given that it is the non-priority (not a customer build). let me know if someone wants this.

Re: A Few New Projects
469Had a very productive week in the shop. #26 got frets installed and the pickguard shaped- but nothing worthy of photos.
#27 has been more of a visual transformation. Body went from a DC tele blank to fully routed and shaped- down to 3lbs 4oz.
and I have the neck shaped and smoothed- now on to a couple dozen hours of sanding

Re: A Few New Projects
470Busy week- lots of progress on both builds, plus just accepted another order. I'll post pics of #27 later, but here is #26, in Ash. Almost done- Just need to do final assembly and then fret dress and setup. $700 if any prf'r wants it. I'll make a similar, if slightly higher, offer on the aluminum board. 24.75" scale, Bolivian rosewood board, slim C neck. Haven't weighed it, but likely 7.5-ish lbs.
