In the late 70's people looked at the Nazis in Chicago claimed they weren't real Nazis and that's how you get Nazis setting-up HQs and marching through your neighborhoods. They didn't take them seriously; thought they looked foolish. Nerdy. As a kid I took them as all sorts of serious and so did our parents who warned us kids which neighborhoods to avoid.

I would like for people - especially in mainstream media - to try and take this seriously and not diagnose it away. I would like for Americans - especially in mainstream media - to be staunchly and aggressively anti-racist and anti-fascist. It's not the time to be explaining things away or adhering to convention.

Yeah, government already undid affirmative action hiring put into place by Lyndon Johnson in 1965.

BTW, every executive order from the last few days was either in Project 2025 or proposed by Musk, or both. To all those "they aren't actually gonna do that" gas bags we had to suffer through over the last year.

People upthread doing mental gymnastics because maybe subconsciously they don't want to confront the reality. This isn't some edge-lord "flirting with taboo" kinda shit--which, in today's culture climate, I understand people wouldn't have patience for either, especially from notable public figures who have loads of money and influence. I don't think this gesture was accidental somehow. As others have pointed out, observe the larger pattens, follow the money, notice Musk's rhetoric and behavior and policies elsewhere. The people he's associated with, and the people they've associated with. There's a lot of "not good" mixed in with what on the surface some might be willing to write off as a mere awkward gesture, or maybe some kind of "performance art."

IMO, if you amass billions of dollars, continue to amass money, and don't give back to society in measurable and positive ways, you have given up your claim to be human.

I'm dead fucking tired of billionaires dehumanizing people because they don't want to take part in a pernicious and hateful economic system. It's time to take that tactic and turn it on them.

Yeah, the baseline for me really.... so I'm not sure if I can properly denigrate him further in any meaningful way.
