I agree with nearly all of your post except:

1. IMO Orgasmatron is a stinker - the band haven't quite figured out their dynamic as a four piece but their efforts are ruined by Laswell's horrific production - so many baffling, unsympathetic choices.

This, March Or Die or Hammered are the three where they really miss the mark (though 'I Ain't No Nice Guy' is one of my favourite songs ever by anybody - play that fucker loud when they burn my body, please).

2. Rock 'n' Roll and We Are Motorhead have some very strong stuff but are a bit hindered by poor sequencing - the weak stuff is all bunched up at the front, but they both get real good from the middle.
If the only great thing in that tune was the fact that it is not the figurative "Trip..." but the literal trip through your life that "Leads to a fall..."

It would still be one of the single best bits of writing ever. Never mind that it happens in a tune that is already stellar.

Wow, rough one. I think it's kind of apples and oranges. I love 'em both but for different reasons.

Motorhead is like AC/DC. You really don't want them to fuck with the formula too much. The music suffers the further away they get from the template. Who the hell wants AC/DC to start doing power ballads or prog epics? No one.

Same with Lemmy and co. Orgasmatron was a neat experiment but it's still Motorhead so it's still badass. Glad they didn't go too far down that road though.

Hawkwind on the other hand never shied away from experimentation. Their sound was loose enough to shift around without losing their basic integrity. They didn't always succeed but at least they tried.

As much as I love Motorhead I have to go with Hawkwind, mainly because the four albums (and various singles) they did with Lemmy are so deeply embedded in my psyche that they color nearly everything I listen to and play.

I've been back on a Motorhead and Hawkwind kick again. The prime-era material of both bands always sounds good. I think Orgasmatron is a very strong record in spite of Laswell's production.

As a young kid, I bought March or Die on tape, and almost wrote off Motorhead. Thankfully, I heard the good shit after.
