“Legacy” acts

1
So I saw “the saints” a few months ago - 2 original members, Mark Arm from Mudhoney on vox (weird), Mick Harvey on guitar, and an old Sunnyboy on bass. Went with no hopes of anything…it wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t amazing. I’ve always personally derided legacy acts - particularly of the punk variety (Peter and the test tube babies at 65?) - but when I looked around at one point at this gig it was just a sea of (middle aged) grins and nodding heads - love in the room and all that. On some levels I’m sure it’s just a cash grabbing embarrassment, on others its clear there’s just a plain passion for playing music… lotsa shades in between. Discuss…

I think amongst PRF folks there are likely many that are playing in what could be considered "legacy" acts.

While individual results are of course mixed, the idea of it is NC, WF:0. Kudos to folks not losing the passion to make music, even though they may only be playing to their fans from 20-30 years ago or even just their friends and family.

The Page Hamilton Variety Show (Helmet in 2025) is very much what you described. I go every time they come through London but it’s more out of habit. Recreating the raw excitement of mid 90s bands that were reinventing rock music isn’t possible, but I’ll nod along.

Not crap, only because I know we I’m getting myself into.

N/C, though some I don't understand, like The Buzzcocks continuing after Pete Shelley passed.

Flipper w/David Yow was fun, and I have tickets to Gang of Four in a few months, even though Jon and Hugo are the only original members participating.
"Whatever happened to that album?"
"I broke it, remember? I threw it against the wall and it like, shattered."

I'm seeing them as well. I thought Pajo was still on guitar but it will be Ted Leo instead. Meh.
I think the woman from Belly is playing bass now instead of Sara (who did the shows in 2023 w/ Pajo).
