You’re right. Most people are not oppressors of trans people in the same way they’re not oppressors of Awá people living in the eastern Amazon rainforest. A major polling firm YouGov does a biannual poll of British attitudes towards the trans people and most glaring aspect is how little most people think about this issue - almost never - and when they’re prompted in this poll are broadly tolerant and with a majority supporting many legal and medical request of trans people. It all get more fractured when you drill down into very specific issues. But the big takeaway for the UK at least is the younger you are the more supportive you are and biological women are more supportive than men.
Sci-fi is always ahead on issues like this. Veronica Cartwright‘s character in Alien is described onscreen in Aliens as previously male.
I would put money down that within ten years the US has a Republican trans congressperson that’s an absolute goblin. In the same way there are gay and minority Republicans that are absolute goblins.
