The Wall is the reason I play bass. Hold on, let me explain! A hippie friend of mine introduced me to the movie and Another Brick In The Wall was so cool, come on teacher, let them kids alone! That hippie wanted to play that record, so - because I couldn't fit drums anywhere - I picked up the bass. By the time I could play anything I hated Pink Floyd and had lost touch with the hippie, so I've never actually learned anything off of it.

I know Money's bassline and I think I own Dark side of the moon. I'm not sure if I have ever listened it completely, though.

Obviously one of the greatest albums of all time. Artistically, thematically, technically brilliant. The songwriting is top-notch. Even the cover art is iconic.

I don't consider DSotM to be hippy dippy by any means. The Syd Barrett era was Pink Floyd's hippy dippy period. DSotM is totally devoid of Barrett's infantile goofiness. It's wry, cynical, philosophical, and a bit somber.

Granted, it got played to death on FM radio in the '70s and '80s, but that does not diminish its greatness.

Everybody had -some- fairy dust nonsense in '67 but the psych/rocking parts of Piper.. are great. Syd solo records are good as well but sometimes seem like we shouldn't be listening to them.

I do like the two Syd Floyd records but sometimes he can be a bit much. I liken it to David Baker's stint in Mercury Rev. Some excellent stuff sprinkled throughout - especially in early Rev - but I enjoy both bands a lot more without the uber freaky drug-damaged whimsy of Syd and David.

I've never owned a copy of this or The Wall, but they have to be the two records I've heard the most without ever actually having a copy. Both got played almost every day in my high school art classes, plus VH1 used to show the movie of The Wall constantly in the 90s.

DSotM seems fine and I like it more than I did in high school. The Wall seems even worse than it did then, though yeah I've got a soft spot for "Comfortably Numb".

Always dug Piper, the Syd-era singles, and Wish You Were Here. Somehow WYWH and Animals were never in the art class boombox rotation.
