Re: Politics
4202I'm not worried. Musk's polling numbers are way down and Democrats are holding lots of press conferences. This will be over soon.
Re: Politics
4203I wouldn't call it a coup. That's giving Trump voters too much credit.
They saw this coming from a mile away and voted precisely for it: to make the government run like a whim-driven, piss-poor, American corporation, complete w/privatization and round after round of layoffs.
It's not like the media wasn't warning anyone about Project 2025. Or like Musky and his Orwellian efficiency group weren't a literal selling point of Trump's campaign.
What the hell did people think was gonna happen? Seems to be exactly what the majority wants, not akin to some hostile takeover. I think many Trump voters welcome gutting the federal government and Musk (an unelected henchman appointed by an elected official) getting his fingers in it—much the same way that many leftists might view, I dunno the Squad or whomever radically reforming the police or the Pentagon.
Remember, many Trump voters resent (or even hate) the government, and they were already chanting about draining swamps and locking people up eight or nine years ago.

Re: Politics
4204Dunno. I think the majority voted for price controls and domestic job opportunities (as silly as it is to expect that out of Trump), not to cut off their own checks and services. Trump denied knowing of Project 2025.OrthodoxEaster wrote: Wed Feb 05, 2025 9:03 am What the hell did people think was gonna happen? But yeah, the guy who shat on Pelosi's desk is probably stoked.
Re: Politics
4205Yeah, but he denied it w/his usual wink, smirk, and fingers crossed behind his back. Kinda like he denied Stormy Daniels' hush money, assaulting E. Jean Carroll, fellating Putin in that men's room...penningtron wrote: Wed Feb 05, 2025 9:13 amDunno. And he denied it while openly hooting about Musky and the now-exiled Lil' Rammer comin' on in to run Warsheengton like some fuckin' Amazon warehouse where employees' bathroom breaks are timed and exempt from hourly wages. Which looks a lot like... Project 2025.
I think many people who voted for him resent the government and misguidedly see this as a leveling of the employment playing field. I wish I were wrong!
Also, anyone expecting price controls out of Mr. Private Sector Casino Real Estate Prick probably isn't exactly navigating life w/a great deal of common sense.

USAID and other programs like it are being funded by the same congress members that we elect with absolutely no oversight of what they do with our taxpayer dollars. Keep this in mind next time you enter the voting booth.
These people need to get jobs in the real world. They need to learn THEY are not in charge and make decisions. Their personal feelings about controversial topics are not needed in a business atmosphere.
And USAID is only .7% of the federal budget. Imagine that mountains of wasteful spending that has yet to be uncovered.
So many don't realize the depth of the government controls on pre-musk twitter -- it was actual fascism in action. Censorship of millions and forced experimental injections are two of the worst things I've ever witnessed in my life for our country.
This one really gets me cause it ain't going to happen:
That money would make a difference in vets lives and health. Children’s research hospitals
Cutting taxes for all

Re: Politics
4208I volunteer at a food bank every week. Yesterday I commented on how the number of clients has been way down in the past couple of weeks. The older white lady next to me asked why. I suggested it was because of the current administration. Her response was "god bless him, he's trying to fix everything".penningtron wrote: Wed Feb 05, 2025 9:50 amLast week's grant elimination announcement, confusion (w/ downed websites), and quick 'retraction' wiped out decades of research alone.handsbloodyhands wrote: Wed Feb 05, 2025 9:39 am This one really gets me cause it ain't going to happen:That money would make a difference in vets lives and health. Re: Politics
4209I imagine you'll see DOGE doing fuck all about defense spending. It's no surprise that an apartheid-lovin' quasi-Bond-villain would immediately target humanitarian aid.
We're headed for social anarchy when people start pissing on bookstores.
