Crowdsurfing

1
I have mixed feelings about this.

I have seen several 'posed' photographs of semi-celebrities on top of a crowd trying to be cool.

Also, if you're in an audience and someone lands on top of you, that's kinda crap.

At the same time, if you have ever done this, it kinda rocks in a way you might not be able to find anywhere else.

I have only crowdsurfed once. It was at a smaller regional festival kinda thing, during the headliner's set (Buzzcocks). I'm not sure I can articulate the buzz in words, but what I can say is that I came away from the experience with multiple bruises and wounds from the crowd that I didn't even feel as they were being administered. Being on top of that crowd was kinda transcendental. Even saying this feels a bit musk like in it's 'I don't give a shit as long as it makes me feel good' kinda way, but at the same time, I can't deny the experience.

I maybe wouldn't do it again, but I'm glad I know what it feels like.

Has anybody else crowdsurfed? How do you feel about it?

Never done it and my broken ass body won’t be doing it anytime soon.

Looks like a lot of fun when it works.

I don’t know. It’s a thing. Like the idea much better than moshing.

I did it a bunch in my early 20s… seemed a great idea at the time.

Now.

Ouch.

I’ve crowdsurfed as an audience member several times, was great. Have crowdsurfed once as a musician, and it was one of my favourite things that’s ever happened at a gig I’ve played. Ripping a solo on your back whilst being held aloft by people, there’s nothing not to like about that.

Read an interview years ago from a musician about her on-stage experiences, and she said that crowdsurfing as a woman is a great way to have strangers put their fingers in your body, so she stopped.
