I love the Rain Dog in the Fine Arts building on south Michigan for the coffee and the enormous amounts of natural light and the copies of Wire and The Nation there for the reading.
And The Bourgeois Pig on Fullerton at Lincoln/Fullteron/Halsted, pronounced by its former manager to rhyme with 'gorgeous', because it's an old house and they have cheap-coffee happy hour.
(P.S. Tim, the Vogue? I saw you guys at the OK Hotel in '91.)

Chicago s best coffee shops
14Intelligentsia Coffee. They roast their coffee here in Chicago. The head roaster for Intelligentsia, Caleb Mayhall, just happens to be the drummer in my band. So, he often brings some just roasted samples over. He also provides fresh coffee for long recording secessions. Their director of training, Ellie, also happens to be one of the 2nd basemen on our softball team. She's swell! So my unbiased opinion is to drink Intelligentsia Coffee. ~ting~
The Coffee and Tea Exchange is another nice one. They provide the coffee for Tre Kronor for all of you who love quiche.

In retrospect, I should have stepped off the stage and utter-kicked Mrs. O'Leary's cow.
