I saw Billy Squier live at some county fair gig as a young teen, I was astounded that I knew five or six of the songs he played. He was also a very good guitar soloist, another surprise. His bass player did a funny walk while finger-picking, looked exactly like a kid doing a T. Rex impression (the dinosaur, but I wanna bring this full circle.) We ducked out before he got to "The Stroke," one of the worst 80's hits I've ever heard. No vote

Funny enough, the whole reason we'd gone was to see Blue Oyster Cult run thru a greatest hits set, "The Red & The Black" included. They featured Rudy fucking Sarzo on bass, a name I'd already recognized, such a dire wake-up call that I immediately started smoking more weed and embracing more grating, contemporaneous bands that chicks actually dig. Great set tho!

As for Billy...

My brother and I used to have this joke about the band in this live clip -

That the entire band outside of Billy is the kind of rounders who have been out long enough that they just start to cry every time that a Denny's waitress sets the menu down in front of them.

It's hard to tell if you should respect them or pity them.
