With all the new apples showing up on shelves (in California anyway) and the OG Best Apple thread in the archive, well, I thought I'd start a new one. I'm leaving out Red and Golden Delicious, because they both received zero votes in the OG thread.
Feel free to add if yours doesn't appear here, of course.
Lately for me Cosmic Crisp and Opals are favorites.

2I’m a fan of the humble Braeburn. A perfectly ripe and large Braeburn sits in the spot between a sour green and a sweet red. It’s also a New Zealand invention.

Re: Best Apple
3The local store sometimes carries some called Honey Bees that are the sweetest apples I've ever tasted. But either Cosmic or (currently very expensive for some reason) Honey Crisps are always welcome.
Re: Best Apple
4I'm going Honey Crisp, but Cosmic and Fuji are very good. Red delicious seem to come with every crappy catered work lunch. Waxy and wretched.
We're headed for social anarchy when people start pissing on bookstores.
Re: Best Apple
5Fuji. I like more sweet than tart.
Usually, either Fuji or Gala is on sale. I go with the cheaper of the two. My new favorite snack is cutting up apple slices and dipping them in peanut butter.

Re: Best Apple
6I'm with OP. Cosmic Crisp or Opal (if I can find them) from the grocer. Cox Pippin from a Michigan farm stand is the best though.

7Honey Crisp is the best, Fuji's second, Gala and Jazz are really good......but outside of red delicious (if ever there was evidence of marketing malpractice....need I say more) most apples are on the upside of good.
What are the green ones in pies that are really tart? I even love hate those....they have their place in the world.
Most food is pretty good, honestly.

8Probably Pippin in a good pie/crumble.Frankie99 wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 3:59 pm Honey Crisp is the best, Fuji's second, Gala and Jazz are really good......but outside of red delicious (if ever there was evidence of marketing malpractice....need I say more) most apples are on the upside of good.

I'll add that I have had good Red Delicious but only from an honor till farm stand in Aptos, CA, where they were grown. These were actually crunchy and tart as well as sweet.

9I thought we had resurrected this thread already but I was wrong. (I was thinking of this thread: viewtopic.php?t=70036)
Sorry for doubting
Granny Smith makes the best hard cider, so that’s my vote.

10Peanut butter and apple sandwiches were a regular when I was a kid, really good combo.Dave N. wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 1:57 pm My new favorite snack is cutting up apple slices and dipping them in peanut butter.
About a year or so ago I fancied having one as it had been a long time, but didn't have any apples in. Had kiwi though....worked surprisingly well.
