D'oh, I searched for "Gordon" but I guess I should have searched for "dick"

I mean I should have read the whole thread but 5 pages is 5 more than I'm willing to read about Phish

Crap.

I don't think I've ever heard their music, but I assume it would not interest me. Why does this band fill me with revulsion? Honestly, it might just be their name, it really irritates me.

Their Ben and Jerry's ice cream though is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Back in college, one of our housemates used to sell a TON of weed. Like the shake alone was in a bag the size of a throw pillow. Anyway, when Phish would come to town, we'd have just scads of wookie hippies and other lot weirdos stopping through for a re-up. we also lived with a psychotic cat named Keith. Keith was fine with most of us, but he had a special hatred from my roommate/bandmate John. He'd bite John's face while he was sleeping. He'd chase him up on top of furniture hissing and snarling. His eyes would go black like a doll's eyes and the teeth would sink in. Gnarly weird cat!

So we've got a house full of hippies waiting for their nuggs, and I pop upstairs to get a record out of John's room. Keith has left "a present" in John's bed. So I'm laughing and I run downstairs and I shout "JOHN. KEITH SHIT IN YOUR BED", and while it was an uncommon occurrence, the whole room of hippies had _no idea_ that I was referring to a cat and not just some nasty dude we lived with named Keith. My god. The look of horror on their faces. Cleared the room right out.

What I'm saying is that in the story is that I'm the Hippies, Keith the cat is Phish, and the shit is their music. Thumbs down.

Agreed. I've already spent too much time here thinking about this band.

There's a really good recent profile of Phish in The New Yorker with quotes from Bernie Sanders and Ian MacKaye:

I was at the famed “Hot Dog” show they mention. I was also at the even more famous “white album” Halloween show. It’s fun making all the hardcore heads go all wide-eyed when I tell them this.

Not a fan, but was Bad Company any more deserving?
I'd say yes, though:

1) Have to take into consideration that Bad Company has been eligible for induction for over two decades, and
2) It's bizarre that the R&R Hall of Fame would bother having a fan vote, which Phish was leading, and then completely ignore it.

R&R Hall of Fame is stupid, though I admit that I have enjoyed many of the performances at the ceremonies.
