Re: Tips for getting the grill off a Shure Beta 58
11Was this a used mic when you got it? Maybe it kept coming loose for the previous owner and they put a bunch of threadlocker on it or something.

Not sure what kinda spit could have gummed that up so badly unless the singer has been gargling epoxy or something.
That's what I was thinking too. It still works, but the rattle is unsettling.Garth wrote: Mon Apr 28, 2025 2:43 pm The bad part is it doesn't even address the rattle to begin with which sounds like the capsule has come undone or loose in some way which I have never seen before. Wild.

No, bought brand new quite a few years ago. At this point I'm wondering if I bought a fake because this issue with the grille seems almost absurd. I'm pretty sure it was a genuine mic though, and I got it before the proliferation of fake mics - they seem to be everywhere these days.Nate Dort wrote: Mon Apr 28, 2025 3:43 pm Was this a used mic when you got it? Do let us know how you get on.mdc wrote: Mon May 05, 2025 4:14 pm I have a couple of older 58s with mangled grilles that absolutely will not come off. I've been meaning to clamp them in a vise at some point but haven't ever gotten around to it.
