The Rehearsal is awesome.
Adolescence on Netflix is in no way a feel good watch, but definitely worth it. Each episode appears to be one long shot. Most people I talk to think its a look at what toxic masculinity is doing to boys and their families, but I feel like it's about what digital culture in general is doing to our society as a whole.
Re: Streaming Netflix/Hulu/etc. - what's good lately?
812Seems to me that what we point to as toxic masculinity is inseparable from social media. If social media went away, much of that (not all, of course) would go away as well, though it'd probably take longer than it took to become what it currently is. There's always gonna be assholes out there, but boys would not be so exposed and would learn better ways to cope with bullying, which likely would also decline with the demise of social media. At least it wouldn't be so widely broadcast.TheCodeIsAlmighty wrote: Thu May 01, 2025 12:48 pm Adolescence on Netflix is in no way a feel good watch, but definitely worth it. 813Turning Point: The Vietnam War (Netflix)
Very thorough doc on Vietnam - with some v graphic footage. Interviews from all sides are very well done and it’s all very well assembled. A real historical punch in the face

815New season of Love, Death, and Robots out May 15.
Based on the episode titles, there seems to be one that will be similar to the tilt-shift zombie one from last season, but with an alien invasion. Fuck yeah.

816Late to the party, but I just saw Star Wars Tales of the Underworld is available. I have not watched it yet, but I am excited for it. I generally think a lot of this Star Wars stuff is crap, but some of it is good (Andor, Bad Batch, Rebels, Skeleton Crew). If you liked Rebels or The Bad Batch, this looks like more of that great stuff. Cad Bane and Ventress are really interesting characters. Really awesome to see a show staring them. I love Ventress's arch from Bad Batch, she's always been kind of neutral, even though she's a little evil. Cad Bane is just the realization of what everyone thought Boba Fett was really like. Just a total bad ass bounty hunter. I always loved seeing Cad Bane in an episode of a Feloni animation.

817The Rehearsal is awesome. It reminds me a lot of Tom McCarthy's novel, Remainder (2005), which I just learned was made into a film in 2015. I'm so excited to watch that. I wonder if Fielder has read Remainder.

818The latest episode (S2 Ep3) might be the most insane thing he's ever done. Holy shit.

819Last of Us S02 has been a struggle to get through.
Re: Streaming Netflix/Hulu/etc. - what's good lately?
820Agree. I just don't like Ellie, don't care if she dies, is probably the biggest issue. The overarching arc (her being immune) was dropped for too many episodes, too. Happy to see they brought that back at least.
