(Anyone else's vision get awful in your mid-40s? I used to have no trouble with the tiniest print (like on a disc cap, or an AC/DC transformer), and it feels like a couple years ago that ability disappeared and now I need readers just to clearly see the newspaper.)
Unfortunately, this is normal. I have terrible far-sided vision, but my near-sided has been great up until last year (47). In fact, my eye doctor said I should consider "baby progressives" to train my eyes before they went over the edge. Not a few weeks later, my wife noticed when I was using my old, non-progressive glasses, I was pushing them up on my head while trying to read my phone. I hadn't even noticed! Then, those baby progressives weren't enough, so I had to get a new pair of glasses. Crazy how quickly it all went down.
However, I don't even notice since I am used to wearing glasses all the time.
