Re: Band: Pelican
22I've given it one spin so far. I'm a big Pelican fan and it didn't grab me. Reminds me of City of Echoes which I rarely come back to. Hopefully I'll get it after some relistens.
Re: Band: Pelican
23Yup. It’s a Pelican record alright. They always Bring It.
A mate of mine refers to that style of music in good humour as Graphic Designer Metal. Because it’s kind of the kind of metal a graphic designer might like.

Anyway, Pelican are second rate crap; I and my mate and my other similar mate who might very well be the same mate say so.Gramsci wrote: Fri Mar 01, 2024 7:43 am My favourite description of this genre is “Graphic Designer Metal”, not because of the album art, but the kind of person that listens to it![]()

25I've always thought that Russian Circles did this style way better.

26It’s a friend that introduced me to the term. I’m sorry if that distinction wasn’t made crystal clear in the post. Obviously things like who first used a description of a metal sub genre are incredibly important and I’m deeply sorry you had to go through this. I’m sure everyone here will join with me in offering up a deep and heartfelt apology.Bluegum LaBloat wrote: Wed May 28, 2025 9:36 pmIs this the same mate you alluded to one page ago or an entirely new mate?Gramsci wrote:Yup. Re: Band: Pelican
27Just a joke about you posting the same observation twice, a year and one page apart. Strewth.
Re: Band: Pelican
28I think the Adobe-heavy heavy aesthetic thing had already occurred a bit earlier, like later '90s Hydra Head releases. I think several of these bands had graphic designers in them and it was an inescapable look for a bit:

29That Cave In cover presaged the artwork of Nickelback and Sum 41.

Sorry the nuance was a bit lost. I thought you were being weirdly pedantic.
Sweet as.
