Obscured By Clouds - how could it be that bad? It was recorded right around Dark Side Of The Moon. It is that bad because it was recorded right around Dark Side Of The Moon. Sounds totally dashed off in a generic 60’s studio jam sort of way. Like, they were a well practiced live act so Floyd could dish that shit out in their sleep, but you can tell they were just going through the motions.

I have a special affection for pre-Dark Side Floyd as my mom accidentally caved in my head with a pre-reissue Live In Pompeii VHS for one of her first eBay purchases - “don’t you like Pink Floyd? This one was on sale” - I must have been 12 as I was in full LZ/Floyd mode at that point and it fucking smoked.

Obscured, though, nope. I’d reached for that one because I’d read they’d used this cool space missile cold war-era Spectra desk in its recording, but the sound is nothing to write home about either. No desk could help material like that. They do that thin weak unnaturally wide acoustic jangly sound I’ve always hated. Strummy acoustics can function just like percussion if you don’t play it like a little bitch. But they did!

Grateful that Alan Parsons refused to run the Dark Side drums through any compression when they brought in somebody else to fuck the up stereo buss.

The post Jane’s Addiction album Deconstruction.

It had a little publicity recently after Spin republished a Substack piece on the making of the album.

I love this album, a vinyl release due.

Not available on steaming. Negoum is, I’ll check it out. Right after I finish Paranoid, Black Sabbath. Walked past a local hipster metal store and brought the vinyl more to be supportive than anything else. :)
