My current favorite pair of running shorts came from CostCo of all places. They're Adidas branded. I like them. They were like $15.
The googles tells me that the best beginner boxing shoe is the Adidas Combat Speed. Comes in a bunch of wild colors. Pardon the Amazon link, but here's what I found:

A huge part of boxing is aerobic conditioning. You might want to also consider a running shoe because you're gonna want something with some cushion since you're going to be jumping a lot of rope. I think what runners call "race day shoes" will probably be good, because they will be crazy light and have a bunch of squish. ONLY WEAR THEM FOR TRAINING. They will be expensive unless you get factory seconds or shoes someone only wore a few times and returned. That squish packs down and you lose all of the advantages of having it, eventually.
There's no downside to going to a full-service running shoe store where they have the treadmill and all that, and they film your feet running and do an analysis.
Fleet Feet offers this service at a bunch of locations:

I roll my feet to the outside when I run, so I get shoes that are stiffer on the outside edge. I found this out by going to this place in Athens that does the full gait analysis. It cost me a little extra to get the first pair of shoes, but now I have an automated google thingy that lets me know when they're on sale or when Brooks has a pair in their clearance thing.
