Re: Ampeg V4/V2 4x12 for bass?

To anyone who needs to know:

A V4B/V4/V2 is in no way a lower-wattage SVT. I recently got a V4B hoping this would be the case. It most decidedly is not. It is a great amp, and lighter for sure, but if you are in love with the thing an SVT does, this just isn't going to do it. Honestly, I think you'd probably get closer w/ a Bass Driver.

Sorry to be a dream crusher but it just does not have whatever throaty growl (sorry I don't have language to quantify it better) the SVT has.

That’s true but I’ve also owned all of them in the classically renowned iterations and I would say that an SVT isn’t a higher wattage V4B/V4/V2, either. They’re something else, and even within the little 60-100 watt V series all have their own particularities among each other.

That may be. It may do a thing but what that thing is I have yet to uncover. So far, I haven't gotten it to do anything particularly unique or interesting enough on bass for me to get excited about it. Not even in the way that I like what a normal V4 does for guitar. Mine is one of the earlier black-line ones with the lettering that wears off super easy.

The SVT though was instant love for me. Immediate thoughts went like: "This is right. This is amazing. This is what I've always wanted." (of course immediately followed by "it's going to suck to move this")
