I'm not from the Chicago area, but my band played there a couple of times, and the Thax took a shine to us (as he did many'a'band, as I understand it). I saw him not three months ago at the Built to Spill concert, and talked with him for a while. He seemed just fine, and read a poem before the show.

Yes, Thax is still kicking it out. I have seen him at a bunch of shows lately. He is sporting a longish beard.

A few months ago I recorded about 2 hours of Thax reading his writings, about 60 pieces in all. Hopefully this will be released in some way at some point somehow.

i don't know why, but i laughed out loud when i saw this thread.
...yeah, he's always around here somewhere, i saw him recently, too, although i can't remember which show it was. once i rode to carbondale with him and my old pal rich, and we talked about who the worst band in chicago could be. ha, that was a funny conversation.

jet.

that's actually what made me wonder how he was; thinking about the recording of his spoken word stuff that steve did however many years ago that was... i was looking for info on a cd, and one of the links that came up in google was somebody's site dedicated to listing all the stuff steve's ever done, music, engineer, producer-wise. and looking through the list, i was utterly shocked to see that thax's spoken-word demo wasn't on there. well, maybe not shocked so much as... what's the opposite of shocked?

if you see him, if you would, tell him i said "hey" and hope he's doing well.
