Nothing wrong with unabashed power pop with some heavy riffage thrown in.

I don't love all of their songs, but the ones I like, I really, really like. I'd say a perfect single album could be made out of any two. I mean that as a compliment. I can't say that about many bands.

Plus, they all sing, and they can play well. I'm a sucker for loose/tight Keith Moon style drumming and a good guitar hook.

I never get the impression that the band is a chore for them, and they seem to be making a living playing rock music. That's cool.

As they say in Canada: "Not crap, eh? Hand me a Molson, uh, you hoser."

i've met the sloan guys a couple of times (even played drums once, that was pretty sweet), and on top of being really nice guys, they're excellent writers. their second album "twice removed" is basically flawless...and in fact was voted the best canadian album ever by chart magazine. while i don't neccsarily agree it's the best, (neil young, joni mitchell, rush etc. all had some fine albums) it is very very good. also their album "pretty together" is quite excellent. very beatle-y, yes...but an hommage as opposed to a ripoff.

also, basically everything molson makes sucks ass, except molson dry. in canada, if you actually know about beer, you skip over canadian, blue, and coors light, and head right to keith's.

One Chord... is a pretty solid album, I'd say their peak. After the last couple albums I'd say they've teetered the totter into a pile of crap.

Now, if anyone wants to hear an incredibly under-rated Canadian power-pop album check out The Flashing Lights - Where the Change is. Their second album and the ep are pretty great too. It's just too bad that Matt Murphy has gone back to playing with his old pals, the more Crap than Not band, the Superfriendz.

I love Sloan. Been trying to see them live for many years now....but there seems to be some kind of astrological block from me seeing them play. I have heard from many a reliable source that they kick copious amounts of ass whilst performing on the stage.

One Chord into Another - Total Gem....nary a stinker on that one.

Navy Blues....damn...that first track alone should make most bands jealous.

I feel like they actually enjoy what they do, which is a sorely-missed quality in music these days.

I second this...they genuinely sound like they are having a blast making the rock...and that counts for alot!
