I would recommend the bands from here (danger adventure, stnnng, bearclaw) as they are all fine bands in their own rights.
also check out yowie and grand ulena from st louis.
we have a good rock town here in stl right now. lots of good currently. come by and see it sometime.
new conformists record in the spring. recording at EA for the first time.

Which tape comp? Remind me. Is it one of the ones that the Noisemaker folks did? "Austilation" or whatever the hell it was called?

Call Me Lightning are currently my favorite band in Milwaukee. The fact that they've managed to meld AmRep-style abrasion with 70s classic rock riffs and make both sound fresh boggles my brain.

I just purchased The Trouble We're In but haven't gotten a chance to give it a whirl.

Thanks again for all of the suggestions.

i love call me lightning!!!!!!! i would like to see them on a different label though.

After I made the purchase I checked out their web site. It shows the CD release being on Revelation and the LP release is on Forge Again Records. I picked up the LP release.

Which label is giving you issues?

to behonest, i didn't even know revelation was still an active label until i googled some old high school friends from waukesha and found a couple were in call me lightning and since by man on revelation. waukesha was sort of a weird place in general, managed to breed an assload of talent & bands (i think the visual aspect is represented on the call me lightning website pretty well) which, for the most part, went unnoticed. i don't have a prob with revelation, i think they're probably great and supported a lot of weirdos getting revelation logo tatts like 10 years ago... i just think there's probably a more appropriate label for the sound and goods... rev is more than a hardcore label i know but, i tend to overlook their releases cause i think of them as one. maybe that's my bad tho, cause obviously they have some good taste...

For the record, i listened to the CML CD at Atomic in Milwaukee and had to shut it off because i thought the recording was really weird: overwhelming room echo and completely buried vocals on the first couple tracks made me feel like the tunes were getting losti n the recording process. Did any else feel that way?

I maintain, though, that they slay live and i highly recommend seeing them if they're in town this week.

Dag. I've got friends coming in for the weekend from Oklahoma City. If history is any indicator of what their preferred actions to do in Chicago is, seeing a noise-rock band isn't one of them. Maybe if I can isolate one of them from the herd I could bring him down.

Are you going?
