Band: Polvo

A really interesting band. And that's not a euphemism in the way a large girl might be referred to as "pretty in the face."
They just always chose "interesting" over "obvious," usually, but not always with good results. I was proud that they were from my area.

They did their own thing and did it well. I agree that some of their shows didn't quite hit the mark, however most of them were absolutely fantastic. When a band is experimental, there's gonna be some shit sometimes. That just comes with it.

Steve Popson was the secret weapon. That doesn't get talked about much. I think of him as a guy with his boot on the tails of two fighting cats. Ash and Dave could musically freak out and do their random things, but they were always anchored by Steve.
His greatest talent was droping in and out. Sometimes choosing not to play at all. The first notes he plays in Tragic Carpet Ride, right before he drops back out lets in a little more space, is a great example of his consistantly good, creative choices.

I really can't say enough about the other three either.

They were good about tossing in the odd cover into their sets too. High points were Polvoed up versions of Steve Miller's "Fly Like An Eagle" Gang Of Four's "Return The Gift" and Gary Numan's "Cars."

Long live Polvo. They were truly a unique as hell band.

Not crap!

Most amazingly versatile band I have heard, every album is individually a great piece of work. I would love for my band to be anything like how good Polvo are.

I agree about shapes, but also respect it for going in a different direction. Some songs are class, It sounds very like Sebadoh 3 in parts.

Fucking legends.
