We are the Elite Designers. We design profound and beautiful furniture for those with wealth and taste. Which is why IKEA makes us furious, livid and angry. Do their designs live, breathe and growl? Are they born from tears of pain? Do they gently touch the bottom of the human soul? Pah! Of course not, no more than weeds can attract a bee. The big blue place is odious, its affordable design is sickeningly shallow and we loathe it even more than we loathe football. Please join us in our unqualified hatred.

NOT CRAP.
Some of their stuff is genuinely nice, and plenty is genuinely OK.
I doubt many people would choose to shop there if budget wasn't an issue, but if budget is an issue there's nothing to touch it.
Also there are some brilliantly clever designs/solutions in amongst the sub-habitat cubic stuff.
Their kids stuff is fantastic too; you can create a bedroom for a kid that we could only dream of as children for hardly any money. My 2 year-old daughter sleeps beneath a huge leaf!
Their wood-sourcing is environmentally sound and they have decent staff policies.
NOT CRAP.

the furniture itself: varied
the names of said furniture: crap (although their naming a 49x64cm corkboard after me was appreciated)
the hysteria surrounding me anytime I have to enter thir poorly-designed megastores in the DC area: crap
the fact that all my friends have the same goddamned furniture because of this place: crap
my dresser, the only piece of Ikea-bought furniture I still own: getting crappier as the years go on.
their meatballs: wtf! meatballs, in a furniture store!?!? not crap!

Don't forget the 50 cent hotdogs
They may actually be more than that.

I like IKEA, when you live in the UK you have to put up with a nation of people that think that those green glass table lamps and net curtains are the height of design. IKEA has been vital in culturally engineering better taste in the average Brit, by appealing to the one thing they value more than a lamp with tassles, a lamp being very cheap.

Gramsci, I thought the restraining order meant you kept away from Peg and Maude at the retirement home?
