He got Foulke. A no brainer at that moment, but he got him.

He had the balls to trade the Sox franchise player for Cabrera and Mientkiewicz, which, amazingly, improved the team.

Theo Epstein is the reason the Red Sox won the 2004 World Series.

Theo Epstein and Paul DePodesta were both clearly too young, too smart, and too successful (the 2004 Dodgers made the postseason for the first time in a decade under DePodesta, and the incredible leadership of Paul LoDuca has resulted in exactly squat for the Florida Marlins) to stay employed.

MLB is a largely stupid, reactionary monolith of Joe Morgan-mind. The White Sox's victory supposedly means that "Moneyball" is a failure and "smartball" rules (except that the statistics show that the White Sox score by hitting home runs). And all the tobacoo chewers are ecstatic.

Theo Epstein and Paul DePodesta will go on to become hugely successful in whatever they do in the future. Except if Theo Epstein chooses to focus his time on his band, "Trauser."
