The first time I saw you guys was at the Stork CLub in Oakland, Cartographer played. The next night was the Edinburgh Castle in San Francisco, Replicator played. I'd never met you guys before then.

Ben
ah I am flipping dates then, I got the first West tour mixed up with the legendary Monkey house basement...

Tele Deluxes.
Travis Beans.
JCM800's.
Housing in Lincoln Park.

Seriously though, another real one might be the old Tesico (or other) gold foil pickups. It's only a matter of time... I could see them easily selling for at least double what they sell for now. Triple.

Travis Beans are already too expensive, which is why I am seriously considering selling one of mine.

I am also pissed that the cheapo EKO/Teisco Del Ray type guitars are no longer $50 or $100. I can no longer find suitable cheapo instruments to do experiments on.
I make music/I also make pretty pictures

One just has to look. I bought a CMI (probably not the former owner of Gibson, but I may be wrong) last year for $50--extremely light, microphonic when put through a distortion, some non-dark wood for the fretboard (the finish was scoured off by a previous owner), but fine for my purposes (octave unison alto). Going to ebay, I also picked up a Heit Deluxe for $35 (plus shipping, but under $50 total). I had to shim the neck on both, had to glue the fretboard down on the Heit, and had to Dremel off the tops of these potentially injury-causing bridge posts on the CMI, but still--cheap usable instruments.

i think tmh was being sarcastic with those first 4 predictions guys.

anyway, i'm surprised you can still get a sunn amp for reasonably cheap. i suspect they'll go up at some point.

i've always wanted to know why music equipment is so diproportionately expensive. american standard strats are mass manufactured by machines with probably <$30 worth of materials and 50 year old technology and they sell them for like $600. someday this bubble will pop people, and i will be there waiting.

IVPs. There always used to be a couple on Ebay. Now I rarely see them, after the next SHellac album comes out they will fetch stupid money.

Tube Traynors. This has been slowly happening and will continue.

Japanese Fernandes guitars from the mid-late 90s. Basically, the fernandez guitars that are Japanese Fenders with different headstocks.

Vaccaro guitars. Everyone loves aluminum.

High powered, late 70s solid state bass amps. Traynor Mono-Block, GK 400B (not RB), Sunn, Acoustic, etc.

Vintage DOD Overdrive 250 pedals.

Your guesses?

Ben Adrian

Recently, I've been wondering: Are solid-state amps making a comeback or what? Am I out of the loop? My brother, a former tubenut who threw around terms like "new old stock," "6L6," and "Czechoslovakia," is now trading in his fender deville for some Kustom solid-state amp.

Is there about to be a boom in the solid state amp market? If so, excuse me while I go buy stock in Crate.

I think a lot of robust 70s solid state amps are making a comback. Traynor TS series, Traynor Monoblock, Sunn, Acoustic, Kustom, etc.

Crate amps are not very robust. They're downright fragile.

Invest in Traynor, Earth, Sunn, etc. Those are about to have a boost, I think. They're already very popular in the pacific northwest.
