our drummer has lent me the second roxy music lp, as she is rather a large fan, and... i'm actually really enjoying it! it's really good music, the kind i'd like to stick on just before going out to put me in a silly dancing mood.
(feel free to read that as either my dancing being silly, or me being silly and wanting to dance: it's perfectly applicable either way.)
apparently she's going to lend me fleetwood mac next.

Ever since the mid eighties, I've had some guilty pleasures involving rap music....especially:
Too Short - 'Born to Mack'
Slick Rick
Ice T - 'Rhyme Pays' & 'Power'
EPMD
Run DMC
NWA
Geto Boys
...it blossomed into the nineties and beyond with:
Wu Tang
Project Pat
Kool Kieth
Blackalicious
I don't know what it is, but I can listen to this stuff for hours while I work ...the worse the dude's voice, the more 'fuck you' the attitude, the better.
you are right josh solberg, i feel much better now.

things are only guilty pleasures because other people try to make you feel guilty for listening to them because they think they're crap, or you imagine that they do. fuck the guiltfellows!

Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. None of the wimpy "Crossroads" shit, but the Eazy-E produced EP and LP.
That, and the Three Six Mafia.

"Lonely Boy" by Andrew Gold. Yes, I like a song written by the guy who wrote "Thank You For Being A Friend." That is so fucked up.

Faust is the Krautrock's compatriot to Kevin Smith's Dogma. AKA CRAAP with an intended double A.

i feel guilty about liking any bands from this recent resurgence of gang of four/pil/whatever "post"-"punk..." more specifically, i feel weird about digging on the new !!! album, to the point of scoring the first two remix 12-inchers. i know, i know: it's fucked up. and i like that radio 4 _gotham_ album too, despite the outmoded and inept cooptation of marx for sloganeering purposes.
i don't feel guilty about liking the rapture, tho... that _mirror_ ep on gravity is pretty undeniable, i think.
oh yeah. unrelatedly, the fact that i will sit through a whiskeytown album and its characteristic two-thirds of trite/slick tripe, just for ryan adams' impressive parsons deriviations...that's fucked up, too. it's fucked up bad, actually.

Roland lent you a Roxy music LP? What kinds of other shit has he been getting up to behind my back, I wonder...
As for my guilty pleasure, Super B doing Nada's "Amore Disperato", but we knew that already.
