Predict the next 15 years of presidency

If the Democrats nominate anyone other than a southern white man, I would be very surprised.

I think John Edwards would be a collosal mistake. The entire election rides on whether or not the Dems can pull any Red States. Edwards, although technically southern, doesn't seem to fit the mold. Too slimy. The fact that he didn't help Kerry pull a single state speaks volumes.

Hillary might be able to pull it off but I'm not convinced. I could really see the Republican spin machine schew her up. I think too many people hate her.

I really think Gephart could get it done (and would have won last year) but I'm not sure he's planning on giving it another go.

there will have to be a sea change in the GOP for mccain to get the nomination. while it would hurt the chances of a democrat getting elected, i would still be in favor of this sea change.

i'm not sure that's true. mccain could get the nomination despite what the party wants simply by walking away with primaries. the GOP would be forced into a position that i would love to watch wherein they have to nominate a man that most likely as president won't give a shit about what they tell him to do.

the other possibility i think is mccain runs and the GOP is so cocky(which could change once all the scandal dust settles) that they attack mccain like they did in 2000 and prevent him from getting the nom while handing it to an idealogue.

what do you mean by last sentence?

It will be too late to have prevented the war in Iraq. It will be too late to have avoided squandering the Clinton-era surplus. It will be too late to avoid having a seersucker Evangelical Taliban installed in our Judiciary. It will be too late to avoid the systematic embracing of torture in our foreign policy. It will be too late to salvage any shred of our international stature. It will be too late for those driven to bankruptcy. It will be too late for New Orleans.

Those problems probably would not exist if either McCain or a Democrat had won the 2000 election, and they might have been mitigated by now if either McCain or a Democrat had won in 2004. That's what I mean. We're hip-deep in pure bullshit right now, and it will take a generation to get us out, not a Presidential term.
