The Blue mics are really excellent microphones. I have extensively used the Bottle, the Mouse, and the Baby Bottle and have on several occasions heard the Dragonfly. The Mouse is one of my favorites and although very specific-sounding, works well in a variety of applications.

I own a Violet Black Knight. Am incredibly impressed with it, excellent value for money. It has a pretty flat response, with a little lift in the mids. I like it most on vocals, has a 'being there' sound. I like it on some guitars, but its primary use is vocals. The suggested US price I think was around $499.00 It is built very well, solid brass body, and a nice open grill design.
Cheers
Matt

Rodabod wrote:I just thought I'd add that the company BLUE have changed recently.
After a lot of litigation, the capsule designer, JZ (not the shite rapper) has departed and makes his own range of mics under the VIOLET name.
BLUE still make mics, but they now have different capsules.
He also does these as well as the VIOLET mics:

JZ, do not try to promote your microphones here. They can speak for themselves.

Oh, I understood that it was you. What I'm saying is that I was at one point interested in your microphones. There has been a lot of hooplah between you and Blue and I wasn't sure what to think of it. But by posting a cheesey and pretensious one-liner like this,

instead something like this,
guy who cares about the people that buy his stuff wrote:Hi, thanks for your interest in my mics. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
you have helped make my microphone buying decision just a little easier.
good luck with your line of microphones,

So what's the deal with Red? And those wierd EV mics? And has anyone used a Dragonfly? A studio I'm tracking in next month has a pair, and I'm curious as to what applications they might sound good on.
