Where Creedence Clearwater Revival makes me want to wrestle alligators, High On Fire makes me want to order a battle axe out of one of those Dungeons and Dragons style catalogs that mistakenly show up in the mail box so I can seriously "fix" the malfunctioning household appliances around here.

Listened to bits of the record before the latest one, and although it was pretty good, the production was a little shitty- 'compressed', for lack of a better word. That's why it was so funny when Blessed Black Wings was labeled that by our friends at P-fork. Joe Preston plus EA's properietor at the helm= NC.

This is possibly the easiest C/NC ever. Matt Pike IS heavy metal. Des and Joe prepare the battlefield perfectly for him, then he slays all in his path. Each time i see them live they get better and better, and they seem like extremely nice people to boot. It's a real shame that Matt's broken his hand and face up and needed/needs to cancel a bunch of dates.

I would seriously doubt someone if they claimed to be a fan of heavy music and didn't like High On Fire.

Non believers, refer in particular to 'Baghdad' '10,000 Years' 'Speed Wolf' 'Face of Oblivion' 'Blessed Black Wings' 'Sons of Thunder'.

If the devil himself had created a guitarist, it would be Matt Pike.

i like high on fire until i read their lyrics. aside from that, they're pretty good. i just got the new one and it sounds really really good. that guy plays huge drums. i can't help but get excited when i see a band load in with a floor tom bigger than a regular kick drum. also, joe preston is the best. but yeah, overall NOT CRAP. this being my first post of crap or not crap participation, i hope i played correctly. thank you bye bye!

No idea what the fuss is about. Even more boring than Sleep (the band, not the function).

Well, I went to see these chaps at the Scala in London's Kings Cross. Indeed, there wasn't much to write home about - until the motherfuckers started playing. Matt Pike writhed and darted like a starving hellhound leashed to a Marshall stack, and tormented monsters of heartbreaking volume flew from his amp (a bit like those spirits at the end of Raiders Of The Lost Ark). Joe bass man looked and played like a mass murderer who has learned how to make earthquakes happen and Des drummer man looked a tiny bit like the guy from CHiPs and drummed a tiny bit like Zeus.

Aaaaaanyway, this was all well and good, and I was most impressed with these nice tattoed gentlemen, but then the gig got really interesting: they actually destroyed the Scala. I mean to say, they played the hardest, heaviest, most atom shattering hard rock I've heard (and I speak as someone who has witnessed the live charms of AC/DC, Slayer and Mastodon) with such final-hour ferocity that the building literally collapsed.

The Scala isn't there any more - you can check!

A downside was that I unfortunately had my face melted, and so lost the use of my eyes, which were of course also melted; I am dictating this post to my deaf secretary (who - ironically - I met at the very same gig).

The record Steve recorded for them is "non-boring". But I'm guessing you have your mind pretty much made up. I'm also guessing you're not much a fan of the heavy rock, but I'm just guessing.

Of course so was Sleep.


Before they were even signed we had them come to Chicago to play the Expo of the Extreme 2 - they blew all the other bands away!
And left with a record deal!
