you see, i thought the SOUND of the guitar was good...it's just all the music it was playing...and there was some echoplex happening that was pretty swell...see, you can put tape/analog delay in about any horrible song and i will enjoy hearing the effect, but only in the sense of detaching it from the rest of the music...so while there were sounds/tones i liked, they didn't cover up the bland, wanky music...
punch_the_lion wrote:I think what makes them stand apart though instead of being simply "retro" is the purity of the guitar playing
don't really know what "purity" means in terms of guitar playing, unless it's generic blues riffs...
maybe their album stuff is the way to go, but i'm willing to bet none of it's the way to go for me...

Dead Meadow rock. Are they touring with Dinosaur, or is that just for select dates?

What I meant by that was the purity of the guitar sound through the extended duration of the riffing. His command of the blues and psychedelic through seemingly natural playing. It isn't any easy style of music to copy much less make it sound refreshing. Dead Meadow's music at their best recall Hendrix, Zeppelin early Sabbath or Blue Cheer in this regard. I'll upload some tracks in the gmail so you can get a better understanding of what I'm trying to illustrate.

I've been on a Dead Meadow kick lately.
If I get a new iPod between now and next Tuesday, I am going to load up their records onto it and play it for my AC/DC lovin' Australian sexy-boy co-worker.

While they do have a tendency to kind of drone along, they played a good set. Their bassist was amazing, though they could all stand to loosen up a little. As far as their records go, the muffled drumming on Shivering King and Others is a bit frustrating. Still, NOT CRAP.
Band = Tia Carrera
Actress = Tia Carrere
And they are fucking awesome.
As for Dead Meadow? CRAP. CRAP CRAP FUCKING CRAP. And I'll tell you why I'm so vehement. They play great music that I would love to enjoy if the goddamn singer didn't go out of his way to make his voice as annoying and grating as possible. I can't make it through an entire song. It's ridiculous and so obviously intentional. It makes me want to punch him in the fucking neck despite the fact that he's probably a decent guy.
Fuck him. I want to like your band, you asshole! Stop singing like that!

Not many bands allow one to simultaneously enjoy stoner rock riffing and shoegaze vocals. NC.
