Well, shit.
Kevin Spacey looks like he's gonna be a phenomenal Luthor.
I'm a sucker for comic book movie trailers, so i'm suckered in. Sue me.

I like Kevin Spacey and I think he'll do a decent job. Unfortunately, from this 2 minute+ trailer I have ascertained that he has borrowed too heavily from Gene Hackman's portrayal. Perhaps that's the point, since they aren't completely resetting the franchise ala Batman Begins?

It looks crap and very CGI heavy but I still want to see the film.

Yeah, they just retconned Superman III and IV, so they're treating it like this takes place 5 years after Superman II (never mind the suspension of disbelief necessary to forget how 5 years ago things were very very early 80s...but it's a comic book movie, and that's what comic books do all the time, so hey). So i'd imagine Kevin Spacey studied the Gene Hackman Luthor quite a lot.

I watched the trailer, the music was felt as a clarion call to the child in me, nostalgia. That stirring music apart, I felt no real excitement at the suffusion of golden light and the voice-over.
Another remake of a Richard Donner directed movie is scheduled for release this year and the omens are bad.
I suppose it's not a remake as such, anyone remember that the special effects in Superman IV seemed less convincing than those in the previous three films?

It's hard to say, being so young when I saw all of them, but I do remember that his "super powers" became much more vague (i.e. the writers got less creative.)
In Superman I he turns back time by spinning the earth against its axis. Farfetched? Of Course! But imaginative, at least.
I think I remember a scene from Superman IV where he rebuilds the Great Wall of China with some mysterious beam from his eyes. WTF?? C'mon! At that point they weren't even
trying!
